When I first watched Mark Lee’s “My Friend” music video, I honestly did not know what to expect. The release feels different from the Mark I have watched throughout his career.

As one of his fans, seeing him step into a new chapter with his own music career, his music video feels more personal, with a theme of exploring deep connections.

Mark released “My Friend” on September 10, 2026, marking his first single after leaving SM Entertainment and NCT. He released the song through his independent creative company, Upper Room. For fans who have followed Mark for years, this new beginning makes the song feel even more meaningful.

Before watching the full music video, I had already seen the teaser: Mark surrounded by flower fields, forests, and wide-open landscapes. The visual elements made me curious about how the different scenes would come together and gave me the impression that the music video would have a softer and more natural concept.

It Connects Deeply with His Fans

When I finally watched the full video, the first thing I noticed was its simplicity. Instead of filling every scene with flamboyant effects or elaborate sets, or back-up dancers and heavy props, the music video allows Mark and the natural surroundings to remain the main focus.

The song has a relaxing and calming sound, with acoustic elements that I really enjoyed. As a fan, I appreciated seeing Mark release his first solo single after leaving SM Entertainment and NCT.

I have followed him since 2020, so I have watched him perform rap-focused songs as well as acoustic pieces when doing his solo as an NCT member. However, seeing him in “My Friend” feels different. There is a softer and more personal side to his artistry that comes through in this release.

Mark expressed his gratitude for their unwavering support and shared his hopes and wishes for the future.

I hope our next chapter together could be where we are all healthily smiling about the past, welcoming the present, and being excited for what’s to come.

The music video also made me curious about what Mark will release next. He describes it as his first step into a new musical chapter and a taste of his upcoming album; I see this song as an introduction to the direction he wants to explore.

Overall, I really enjoyed Mark Lee’s “My Friend” music video because it feels peaceful, personal, and deeply connected with his fans that different from what I expected. The simple visuals, natural locations, and warm cinematography complement the song beautifully.

If I had to describe my reaction in one sentence and rate it, I would rate it as 10/10 and say that “My Friend” feels like watching Mark Lee open the door to a new chapter without completely closing the one behind him. I am excited to write reviews of the chapter takes him and what other sides of Mark Lee we will discover through his music.
